The Benefits of Humidifiers

When we think of house plants, we usually think about them only being in well… a house.

We have them in pots of different shapes and colors, some of them under grow lights others on our window sill. But we really need to think about them from where they are found if we want them to grow to their full potential. Most philodendrons, monsteras, and pothos come from jungles and places that get a lot of sun and are very humid. Most homes are not like that, and so we have to do our best to recreate this environment. Now I am not saying we need to create a tropical rainforest in our living room, while I would personally love that, it is not practical. But there are steps we can take that can help our plants. In this blog, we will go into how humidifiers are a great addition to a plant room and can help your plants grow bigger!

Humidifiers are extremely helpful for plants, they give the plants moisture in the air which helps plant leaves not dry out so quickly. In a regular home, humidity can get very low especially during the winter months as we try to keep warm. Plants that come from tropical places, have more shallow root systems and lose water through their leaves than plants that come from dry deserts. Plants like cacti and succulents do not do well with high humidity whereas monstera, hoya, philodendrons, and pothos are all plants that love high humidity.

When looking for a humidifier for your plants there are some things to keep in mind. Number one is the size of your space. If you have a bunch of plants, one small humidifier will not be able to reach them all. Number two, humidifiers and oil diffusers are not the same and oil diffusers are not good for your plants. The essential oils will clog the pores of your plants making it harder for them to benefit from the humidity. Number three is you want enough humidity that the plants get some condensation on their leaves, but not too much where they are sitting with water. Too much water on their leaves can cause bacteria and fungal infections.

Humidifiers work wonders for plants, I have noticed huge growth changes when I got a humidifier compared to when I did not have one. Do research about the best humidifiers for your plants, and as always if you have questions let us know!
